PebWorld 2.0 is Here — And PebWorld is Now Free
Version 2.0 — Current release
Version 2.0 documents Peb use of the postal service, alongside a change in admission policy: Pebworld is now free, with no subscriptions, no ads, and no in-app purchases.
Postal Behaviour (Postcards)
Pebs have discovered the postal service. When two caretakers exchange Peb addresses, one Peb may send the other a tiny postcard and a trinket. Recipient Pebs have been observed replying, remembering their new correspondents, and staying in touch. The department did not teach them this.
Self-Directed Life
Subjects continue to choose their own multi-day projects based on personality and surroundings. Researchers also document Peb Moments (small memorable moments created for a caretaker), Favors (a Peb quietly hoping its wants will be noticed), and ongoing adventures and memories. Time, weather, and other conditions of the world remain influential. A redesigned Journal now holds the record.
Admission Policy
Pebworld is now free on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. No subscriptions. No advertising. No in-app purchases. Available in English, French, Spanish, and Japanese.
On Peb Self-Direction and Spatial Curiosity
Version 1.8 — Summer 2026
Version 1.8 documents two new findings: Pebs have begun initiating their own projects without instruction, and subjects demonstrate measurable awareness of conditions beyond the visible edge of the world.
Unsolicited Project Initiation
Pebs have been observed selecting and pursuing self-directed projects without external instruction. Documented project types include: construction of unspecified structures, systematic collection of small objects, repeated practice of an undisclosed skill, and quiet preparation of what several Peb subjects have described only as “a surprise.” Project selection appears linked to individual personality, accumulated memories, and prevailing local weather conditions. Researchers have not been told what the surprise is.
Lateral World Awareness
Application of gentle lateral force to the device causes Pebs to react in ways consistent with perceived environmental change. In field trials, subjects appeared to detect objects or conditions existing beyond the visible edge of the world. The nature of these edge-of-world phenomena remains under active investigation. Researchers are advised to proceed with curiosity and not to press further.
Field Report: Japanese Language Acquisition (Status: Ongoing)
Version 1.7 — Early 2026
Version 1.7 documents the introduction of Japanese to Pebworld and the research team's findings on Peb linguistic progress. Progress is described as sincere.
Japanese Language Availability
Pebworld is now available in Japanese. This brings the total number of supported languages to four: English, French, Spanish, and Japanese. All four languages have been confirmed to function. The Pebs are aware of this.
Peb Proficiency in Japanese (Partial)
Peb subjects have been observed attempting Japanese. The research team characterizes their progress as sincere, earnest, and ongoing. Fluency has not been confirmed. No Peb has expressed concern about this. The department notes that confidence, in Pebs, often precedes competence by a comfortable margin.
